Bio:
PLAZA is an R&B singer/songwriter hailing from Ottawa, Canada. He emerged from the Toronto rock scene in the 2010’s as the frontman for various acts, and in 2016 PLAZA began his solo career.
Mixing downtempo, ambient soundscapes with floating melodies, his first EP ‘ONE’ quickly accumulated millions of streams and gained the attention of Toronto’s own Drake and his OVO Sound label. After signing with Warner/OVO in 2017, PLAZA released his acclaimed second EP ‘Shadow’, followed by a string of singles including standout track ‘All Mine’.
With a more clear vision of how he wanted to contribute and operate within today’s music industry, PLAZA restructured his management team and set about becoming independent. They formed Shadow Records Inc. in the spring of 2021 and released PLAZA’s comeback single ‘Still Alive’ signifying his return on his own terms.
‘Still Alive’ was the first of 3 singles leading up to PLAZA’s much anticipated debut album, ‘Nocturnes’. Taking inspiration from the ghostly compositions of 19th century composer Frederic Chopin, PLAZA looked to convey a similarly evocative and eerie mood while writing his own nocturnes.
As the name suggests, ‘Nocturnes’ is an album made for the night. It summons memories of past love and heartbreak, of betrayal, and of the hellish depths one can fall to while trying to avenge a shattered ego.
