Miley Cyrus has been dressing down (ever so slightly) in the last six months or so. For a while, every photo shoot she did had at least partial nudity and her Instagram was like an ad for a really weird strip club.
But not so much these days. And she says it’s because showing all that skin started to make her feel like she was being “sexualized.”
She says, “It became something that was expected of me. I didn’t want to show up to photo shoots and be the girl who would get my [boobs] out, and stick out my tongue.”
She also says the whole message behind dressing the way she did got lost somewhere, “It was kind of like saying, ‘[Eff] you. Girls should be able to have this freedom or whatever.’ But it got to a point where I did feel sexualized.”
Now, obviously she was being sexualized. And it’s probably fair to say she was a willing participant. Like when she twerked all over Robin Thicke at the VMAs in 2013.
But it doesn’t sound like she’s claiming she wasn’t a part of it. And she wouldn’t be the first person to tone that kind of stuff down at age 24.
Miley also says the shock factor is just gone now. At the Met Gala in New York this past May, she said, “Everyone had their boobs out, everyone had their [butt] out.” So, it’s actually more of a statement if she doesn’t dress like that.
Beyoncé took to Instagram last night to share the first photo of her and Jay Z’s twins. The image shows a nearly-naked Beyoncé draped in a purple robe and blue veil as she cradles the babies in her arms. “Sir Carter and Rumi. 1 Month today,” she captioned the shot, confirming the names previously reported by the media. In less than an hour’s time, the photo garnered more than 1.5 million likes and tens of thousands of comments.
The Weeknd is planning a romantic vacation for Selena Gomez’s 25th birthday, and apparently Selena is pretty excited about it! She’s counting down the days until the big b-day. She has no idea where they’re going, but I’m sure she knows it will be somewhere amazing.
Speaking of Selena, Taylor Swift took to Instagram yesterday to support her best friend Selena Gomez, after months of radio silence. “Sultry pop magic from this dreamy almost-birthday-girl,” she captioned a photo of Selena’s recent cover art for her new single, “Fetish” featuring Gucci Mane. The last time that Taylor posted something was back in May. And before that it was March.
Wrestler and actor John Cena has a very high-maintenance morning routine. “I’m completely man-scaped from head to toe–from the ears down– so that takes a bit of time,” he says. “A lot of shaving cream and a very good razor–and time. I have a lot of surface area to cover.” He continues, “I got into bodybuilding at a young age, when I was like 15 or 16. It’s something that I started, and the first time you man-scape yourself and it starts to grow back, it is so uncomfortable, so I just kept doing it.” Cena, who goes through at least six dispensers of shaving cream a month, adds, “If I’m pretty, pretty quick with it, I’d say it takes a half hour, but sometimes it’s probably an hour.”
Jennifer Lopez may play a detective on Shades of Blue, but she reportedly turned to a real-life private eye to snoop on new boyfriend Alex Rodriguez earlier this year. I heard this before, that she hired a private eye to follow Alex because she was worried he was cheating on her. Well, I guess he found out and they got in a huge fight. They were able to work through it though… my source says J.Lo is really into Alex and wants it to work, so she’s controlling what she can.
Kim Kardashian is staunchly defending her decision to put her 4-year-old daughter North West in a corset dress.
North was photographed this week wearing an orange dress with a white lace-up corset attached. The photo was shared on social media and many people were outraged, calling the dress inappropriate and sexualized. Kim responded by saying, “I would never put my daughter in a corset! It’s a dress I bought that is a cotton fabric that laces up & looks like a corset! Just decoration,” she tweeted.
Kim has spent a lot of time on Twitter this week defending herself. This latest controversy erupted after she shut down rumors that there were lines of cocaine on a table in the back of a video she shared (turned out it was the natural marbling of a table!)
Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik grace the cover of Vogue’s August issue. In a nod to “gender fluidity,” they are both wearing what was once considered menswear: button up collared shirts and blazers. In the article, they admitted that they swap clothes from each other’s closets all the time.
Gig also explained that their rejection of gender norms isn’t confined to the closet. Apparently, Zayn loves cooking. His chicken and sweet corn recipe is “like a hug,” she says.
Angelina Jolie and her daughter Shilo have opened a sanctuary in Namibia to care for rhinos and elephants injured or orphaned by poaching. The Shiloh Wildlife Sanctuary is a collaboration between the N/a’an ku sê Foundation, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Shilo already had a special connection to Namibia–the 11-year-old was born there in 2006.
Sharon Stone is speaking out in response to a handwritten letter written by Madonna years ago, which has been leaked online. In the letter, which was seemingly written in the 1990s, Madonna slams both Sharon and Whitney Houston as “mediocre.”
“It’s so unequivocally [sic] frustrating to read that Whitney Houston has the music career I wish I had and Sharon Stone has the film career I’ll never have,” Madonna wrote in the letter. “Not because I want to be these women because I’d rather die but they’re so horribly mediocre and they’re always being held up as paragons of virtue and some sort of measuring stick to humiliate me.” The letter appears to be written some time after Madonna published her 1992 photography book, Sex.
Sharon took to Facebook to respond publicly to the letters: “Dear Madonna, First, I think it’s absurd that anyone is publishing your private letters. Therefore; I publish publicly,” she wrote. “Know that I am your friend. I have wished to be a rock star in some private moments… have felt as mediocre as you described. We know, as only those who have survived so long that owning our own mediocrity is the only way to own our own strengths; to become all that we both have become. I love and adore you; won’t be pitted against you by any invasion of our personal journeys. Sharon.”
Darlene Lutz, Madonna’s former art consultant, provided the letter to Gotta Have Rock and Roll auction house. The private letter to actor John Enos is a part of a large cache of personal items, including a private letter from the late rapper Tupac detailing their romance and breakup, which are being put up for auction on July 19th. The letter is expected to fetch $3,000 to $5,000 when it goes up next week.
